Some Comments on The Blog

Dear readers, good afternoon. I have been struggling to find a topic on which to comment. There are many things I want to say, but in time, piece by piece. And I must find out how to start. Inquisition, crusades, celibacy... much to say, but almost all such topics arouse polemicism, and my intention here is to write, expose, maybe even argue (when well-intentioned is the discussion), but not spar, fight, etc.

Well, let us begin by saying why Catholicism, among so many other religions. God revealed Himself to the Jews. The revelation had as its' ultimate consummation, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, God made flesh for the salvation of mankind. He founded a Church, which is the Catholic Church, founded on Peter (the pope). In short, that's it.

How came I to such a conclusion? At first, my decision to convert to Catholicism was purely practical: I wanted to adopt the dominant religion of my country (Brazil). But, as I started studying about it, and actually practicing its' posthulates, I became more and more certain that I was not facing merely one more religion out of many. I was facing the Truth. That's when my heart really converted. Since then, I've made it a point in my life to do my best to spread the word. This entire blog maybe is a consequence of such.

I have, since my early teenage years, an intense interest in the matters of Russia, Ukraine, Eastern Europe. I can't really explain, objectively and certainly, why. It's too many factors, and at the same time none of them is really definitive (such as I like their history, I like the languages, some of the songs...).

And, since my conversion, I now look at such region with keen preoccupation, seeing it as, mostly, a territory of mission. Our Lady, at Fátima, talked about Russia and its' importance, including the necessity of its' conversion. When we see the rates of abortion, anticatholicism, and many such problems in those lands, one might start understanding that there's something severely wrong, spiritually, going on there. Not that the rest of the world is much better. But, in my vision, there is something special about those lands. Maybe it's just because, as I said, it's a region that particularly interests me.

This is why, it seems, much of my first posts here has been about Saint Vladimir, about Eastern Catholics, about the Schism of Constantinople...

That is why, I would say, I am generally passionate about such issues, even though I am mostly unrelated, at least externally (I'm a Brazilian, Catholic, descendant of Natives, Italians, Portuguese, Spanish, possibly some Dutch/German... but nothing close to slavic).

Anyway, though I'm really willing to talk about my newly-acquired faith and knowledge, I do not appreciate discussions with people in whom I do not sense true interest, but rather a desire to attack. This is why I try to be very careful about what I say. Also because I honestly want to say only what I truly believe to be true. I don't want to lie or misinform.

I hope you, readers, will understand this and, those who are of good intention, please, feel welcome to read.
